 RTD focus of organization food, chemical and biotechnological engineering, as well as in environmental analysis
 Description of RTD activities Faculty of Technology (FT) at the University of Novi Sad was founded in 1959 with the primary aim of providing academic education for food technology engineers. FT organizes scientific activities for all appointed fundamental and applied investigations in food, chemical and biotechnological engineering, as well as in environmental analysis. These activities are carried out within a number of multilevel and inter-institute national and international research projects (FP, COST, EUREKA, TEMPUS, DAD, WUS, CEEPUS II, INTEREG, etc.).
Laboratory for chemical contaminants in food and the environment coordinated by prof. Škrbić has been involved in the following research areas and activities for many years:
-Food safety: sources and routes of food contamination by persistent chemical pollutants and their relative importance; development of analytical methods and reference materials for foods;
-Food safety risk analysis – estimation of dietary intakes contributing to the exposure assessment concerning toxic and carcinogenic pollutants;
-Food quality and nutrition: quality and nutritional value of foodstuffs; beneficial and harmful dietary factors; development of novel food and ingredients with nutritional and health claims, satisfying both the nutrient requirements and food quality and safety criteria according to the EC legislation and Codex Alimentarius;
-Environmental impacts and total food chain: monitoring and understanding of the environmental impacts and effects of contaminance occurrence in foods and feeds;
- Exploration of current arrangements of food safety regulations in the world by reviewing institutional procedures and structures to cope with food risks regarding the chemical contaminants and residuals in food, applied methodology of analysis, identification and control due to analyzing their comparability with existing European requirements;
-Development of analytical methods for persistent pollutants and other matter harmful for human population in the environmental matrices, biological samples, major food crops and related products, waste streams
-Mathematical modeling and computational simulation techniques usable in bio-monitoring (multivariate analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), cluster analysis (CA), artificial neural networks (ANN), quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPR), quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR), quantitative structure-retention relationships (QSRR)).
