 Description of RTD activities The main goals of the Centre are organization of international SDEWES conference every two years and general promotion of sustainable development of energy, water and environment systems trough organization of courses, summer schools, public lectures, seminars and workshops and by providing professional opinion on important issues of sustainability.
 Experiences in international Programmes The first Dubrovnik Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems was organised by University of Zagreb in cooperation with Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon) in 2002. The conference was partly financed by European Commission. Since then, three more successful conferences have been organized in 2003, 2005 and 2007. SDWESS conferences, their side events and special sessions are becoming important places for gathering of various researchers and project leaders from the region but also Europe and the World. The 5th Dubrovnik Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems had in attracting more than 700 abstracts, of which some 500 were accepted, nearly 400 manuscripts were accepted for oral presentation with 340 confirmed participants.
