» M.Sc and Ph.D degrees Training in basic experimental techniques of molecular genetics and recombinant DNA technologyTraining in specific techniques for monitoring gene expression Preclinical investigations of immunomodulatory and antineoplastic agents by testing potential immunomodulatory properties of biologically active substances that may have applicability in development of new therapeutic methods in the disorders with immune pathogenesis (autoimmune disorders
» infection and malignancy). Testing of new synthetic pharmacological agents
» or purified biologically active natural products as a potential drugs
» which may be used for therapy of immune-mediated disorders Testing of existing therapeutics
» which may expand their indication to immune-mediated disorders Preclinical investigations of immunomodulatory and antineoplastic agents include examination by adequate experimental models in vivo and in vitro. In vivo investigations of immunomodulatory effects of selected biologically active substances include testing of their immunomodulatory potential in animal models of organ-specific autoimmune diseases as an analogs for human disorders (type 1 diabetes
» multiple sclerosis)
» as well as in models of experimental infections induced by bacteria and their products (endotoxemia). Parameters for evaluation of drug efficacy include: clinical signs of the disease
» histopathological changes
» phenotype characteristics of immune cells
» their proliferative capacity
» and the production of relevant cell-derived mediators (cytokines
» reactive oxygen and nitrogen species). In vitro investigations of immunomodulatory effects of selected biologically active substances include testing at a cellular and molecular level by using normal cells of various origin
» as well as malignant cell lines. Immunological and biological parameters for evaluation of drug efficacy include: cell proliferation
